TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Co-op (Wearable & Biomedical Devices) (Wearable and biomedical devices): Developing and evaluating sensor-enabled wearable and biomedical systems across prototyping, testing, data analysis, and refinement with an accent on physiological signal measurement, biomechanics, signal processing, and control systems. Focus on analyzing ECG, PPG, EMG, temperature, motion, and impedance data, building analytical tools in MATLAB or Python, and validating safe, usable, and reliable skin-contact products.

Location: Needham, MA, United States; full-time onsite, 5 days per week

Hourly pay range: $27–$40 USD

What you will do

  • Support research, ideation, and exploration of wearable and biomedical product opportunities in the Shark skincare space.
  • Contribute to the full product lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping, testing, refinement, and validation.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze physiological and system-level data to support design and performance decisions.
  • Work with sensor-enabled systems and data acquisition platforms to evaluate functionality and user experience.
  • Use MATLAB and/or Python to analyze data, visualize trends, and develop analytical tools and models.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product partners while considering safety, usability, reliability, comfort, and performance.

Requirements

  • Current student in, or recent graduate within the past year of, a related bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program.
  • Availability for a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule onsite in Needham, MA, from September through December 2026.
  • Coursework or project experience in biomechanics, signal processing, or control systems.
  • Familiarity with physiological signals such as ECG, PPG, EMG, temperature, motion, or impedance, and basic signal processing concepts.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python for data analysis, visualization, and algorithm development.
  • Strong mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanical design, and hands-on experimental testing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with developer kits such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
  • Experience with biocompatible materials, electrodes, or skin-contact sensors.
