What you will do

  • Design on-water boat tests with engineering test technicians, execute tests, analyze data, and write summary reports.
  • Request and use CFD and FEA simulations for component- and vessel-level validation.
  • Coordinate component-level structural testing during prototype development and new product development.
  • Use load cells to measure propulsor loads in calm water, rough water, and turning operations.
  • Feed simulation and test results into one-dimensional performance prediction models.
  • Drive hydrodynamic shape changes to gearcase and propeller components to meet functional requirements.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • At least second-semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits.
  • Available to work a full-time, 40-hour week from May through August 2027.
  • Interest or experience in aerodynamic or hydrodynamic system design, analysis, and optimization.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and tool creation, plus experience designing and executing tests.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Experience with marine propulsion systems or general boating.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on experience applying academic knowledge to real-world engineering projects.
  • Collaborative work alongside experienced engineering professionals.
  • Exposure to multiple engineering areas based on the intern’s interests.
  • Regular feedback and performance reviews throughout the assignment.
  • Growth and development opportunities across hirify.global’s brands.
