Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York City or San Francisco, with in-person office work 4 days per week

Salary: $180,000–$250,000+ annually for applicants in the US

What you will do

• Build and ship end-to-end features that improve student and teacher experiences.
• Own core backend systems, infrastructure, and technical decisions across the product lifecycle.
• Improve code quality, observability, CI/CD, developer tooling, performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
• Design APIs, operate production systems and cloud infrastructure, and participate in incident response.
• Partner with product managers and designers on UX, interaction design, prototyping, testing, rollout, and support.
• Provide technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, mentorship, and management of junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent technical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong backend experience with Kotlin, Python, Go, Rust, or Scala, with willingness to work with Kotlin and Python.
• Hands-on experience operating production systems and cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
• Experience designing APIs, working with relational databases such as MySQL, and shipping complex systems.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, reliable deployments, technical communication, and mentoring or managing engineers.

Nice to have

• Extensive experience contributing to frontend codebases with React and TypeScript.
• Experience integrating LLM-backed services, including API usage, evaluation, and operational considerations.
