Senior Staff Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London office or remote within the UK, with occasional meetings in London. Relocation to the UK is supported and visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: £155,000–£200,000 per year plus equity.

What you will do

• Shape technical and product direction across a collective of multiple engineering squads and 30–70+ engineers.
• Lead hands-on coding, architecture, and technical decision-making for complex backend systems.
• Partner with Product and Design leadership to define strategy, shape roadmaps, and make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Drive alignment, momentum, quality, reliability, scalability, and long-term sustainability across teams.
• Mentor, sponsor, and develop senior engineers and future technical leaders.

Requirements

• Track record of leading complex, high-impact systems and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
• Strong technical judgment combined with product and business awareness.
• Experience with scalable backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and align senior stakeholders across engineering and product.
• Experience using Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, or GCP is relevant to the engineering environment.
