Backend Engineer (Mid/Senior), Marketplace

Location: West London, United Kingdom; office-based four days per week with one remote day

Salary: Starting from £90,000 per year

What you will do

• Write high-quality, performant backend code primarily in Go.
• Implement new microservices and help migrate away from legacy services.
• Translate product requirements into concrete technical designs with product managers, designers, and data scientists.
• Optimize systems for responsiveness, low latency, reliability, and heavy traffic.
• Apply TDD, domain-driven design, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable backend services; 5+ years for senior candidates.
• Experience with Go or the ability to interview in another strong language such as Python, C++, or Ruby.
• In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Upper-Intermediate English proficiency at B2 level or higher, with the ability to discuss technical trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, gRPC, or Thrift.
• Senior-level system design experience and a strong record of engineering achievements.
