Backend Engineer (Mid/Senior, Maps)

Location: West London, United Kingdom; office-based four days a week with one remote day

What you will do

• Write high-quality, performant backend code primarily in Go.
• Build new microservices and support the migration away from legacy services.
• Design technical solutions with product managers, designers, and data scientists.
• Process large volumes of coordinates for road matching and journey tracking.
• Optimize systems for low latency, responsiveness, and reliability under heavy load.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable backend services; 5+ years for senior candidates.
• Experience with Go or strong backend experience in Python, C++, Ruby, or another language.
• In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka and at least one year of hands-on mapping-related experience.
• Experience with noisy geospatial data, map matching, road network graphs, or routing algorithms.
• Upper-Intermediate English (B2) or higher for discussing technical trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Understanding of navigation edge cases, GPS drift, rerouting, and missed turns.
• Experience with OSRM, C++, or OpenStreetMap data.
