Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London, UK; in-person attendance is expected at least 3 days per week.

What you will do

• Define the architectural vision, technical roadmap, and engineering standards for high-availability, low-latency cloud platforms.
• Lead multi-quarter modernization initiatives, including the migration of foundational services to resilient, containerized cloud environments.
• Direct distributed architecture and technical integrations between the Bitstamp exchange backend and Robinhood’s global infrastructure.
• Design self-healing systems, intelligent automation, deployment pipelines, and auto-scaling patterns to reduce operational toil.
• Own ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives and balance speed, resilience, cost, and maintainability.
• Mentor senior engineers, lead architecture reviews, support high-severity incidents, and establish safeguards for 24/7 platform reliability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant backend and distributed systems engineering experience, including technical leadership in high-scale environments.
• Advanced expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Aurora, and DynamoDB.
• Deep understanding of high-concurrency, low-latency architectures, event-driven systems, fault tolerance, and data consistency models.
• Ability to take ambiguous, organization-wide problems from inception through production and deliver high-impact outcomes.
• Strong communication and cross-functional influence skills across multiple geographies.
• Availability for at least 3 days per week in the London office and participation in an on-call rotation is required.
