What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex features for the Open Data Platform.
• Architect scalable, high-performance, and robust solutions for data infrastructure.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and technical growth.
• Drive technical discussions and influence the strategic direction of open-source projects.
• Perform thorough code reviews to ensure maintainability and adherence to engineering standards.
• Work across diverse environments including Bare Metal, Virtual Machines, and Kubernetes.

Requirements

• Must be able to work on-site in Kitchener, Canada, with valid work authorization
• Minimum 7 years of experience in distributed systems or data platform development
• Extensive hands-on experience with advanced Java, Scala, or Python
• Strong Linux proficiency for automation and troubleshooting
• Experience managing threads, debugging deadlocks, and optimizing garbage collection
• Proven track record of building and scaling complex software systems in Big Data ecosystems
• Fluent English communication skills

Nice to have

• Demonstrated history of contributions or committer role in Apache projects
• Experience with Hadoop-based distribution migrations or data streaming platforms
• Proficiency in identifying performance bottlenecks in big data applications
