Director of Solutions Engineering (AI)

Location: New York City, United States; on-site

Compensation: $320,000–$400,000 annually, plus commission and equity

What you will do

• Build, lead, hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing Solutions Engineering team.
• Establish scalable best practices for pre-sales solutioning, proof-of-concepts, technical validation, demonstrations, and prototypes.
• Partner with Sales leadership to develop go-to-market strategies and align technical execution with business goals.
• Guide enterprise prospects and customers through discovery, solution design, integration planning, and ROI validation.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to translate customer insights into roadmap priorities.
• Represent Decagon as a senior technical leader in executive customer meetings, workshops, and industry events.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in pre-sales technical roles such as Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience managing or leading pre-sales or Solutions Engineering teams.
• Experience working with large enterprise customers and complex buying cycles.
• Strong technical proficiency with enterprise AI deployments, API integrations, and production system architectures.
• Excellent communication, executive presence, and consultative skills across technical and business audiences.
• Experience building scalable teams and processes in fast-moving, high-growth environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI or generative AI pre-sales engineering and enterprise deployments.
• Familiarity with enterprise architecture, developer tooling, SDKs, and integration patterns.
• Software engineering or systems engineering background.
• Experience integrating telephony infrastructure or other complex enterprise systems.
• Knowledge of LLM architecture, prompt engineering, evaluation, and AI-powered solution design.
