Director of Engineering – AI Solutions for Developer Productivity

Location: Morrisville, North Carolina, United States; hybrid working environment with some in-office and/or in-person expectations

Salary: USD 227,800–338,800 per year, with the final offer determined by location, qualifications, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Define and deliver the roadmap for AI-infused internal developer tools, including LLM coding assistants, code review agents, CI/CD diagnostics, code migration, and dynamic documentation.
• Lead, recruit, and mentor Machine Learning and AI Engineers developing developer productivity solutions with Platform Engineering and DevEx teams.
• Integrate AI tooling into developer IDEs, version control systems, test harnesses, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Oversee code indexing, vector databases, embedding models, and secure Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines for repository context.
• Partner with Security and Compliance to implement guardrails for IP protection, secret scanning, license compliance, and secure code generation.
• Drive adoption through training programs, hackathons, best practices, and productivity measurement using DORA, SPACE, and related KPIs.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience integrating Generative AI, code-trained LLMs, agentic frameworks, or custom RAG pipelines into developer workflows.
• 8+ years of core software engineering experience, including Developer Experience, Internal Developer Platforms, or CI/CD infrastructure.
• Deep familiarity with modern IDEs, AI code assistants, AI code scanning, automated testing, and code review tools.
• Strong understanding of vector search engines, code embeddings, and LLM fine-tuning techniques.
• 5+ years managing engineering teams at Engineering Manager, Senior Manager, or Director level, preferably in platform engineering or internal tooling.
• Experience using metrics to measure productivity and cost efficiency while maintaining code quality and developer well-being.
