TL;DR

Software Engineer (Video/Voice): Designing and implementing real-time, high-throughput, low-latency services for Twilio’s Voice Trust team with an accent on API design, distributed systems, and operational excellence. Focus on scaling complex distributed platforms, ensuring high availability, and leveraging AI coding assistants for productivity.

Location: Remote in the USA, not eligible to be hired in CA, NY, WA, PA, CT. Occasional travel may be required for in-person meetings.

Salary: Estimated pay ranges (for CO, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, VT, DC): $114,600 - $143,300; (for NY, NJ, WA, CA outside SF Bay area): $121,400 - $151,700; (for San Francisco Bay area, CA): $134,800 - $168,500.

What you will do

• Design, implement, verify, deploy, and operationalize real-time services with high throughput and low latency.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
• Document technical designs and ideas effectively for cross-functional team collaboration.

Requirements

• Minimum 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in a large-scale, distributed applications environment on JVM based technologies.
• Experience building RESTful services, API design, and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack, or Azure, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, and monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
• Excellent written communication skills and strong Java fundamentals for architecting, reviewing, and debugging code.
• Demonstrated proficiency working with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) and ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.

Nice to have

• Can demonstrate with metrics how AI has been used to increase productivity.
• Experience scaling data tiers employing a variety of SQL/NoSQL database and caching technologies.
• Knowledge and experience working with SIP protocol and Stir/Shaken protocol.
