Software Engineer (Hybrid) - 30866 (AI)

Location: Hybrid; must work at the customer site in Hanover, MD 1–2 days per week and at hirify.global’s Columbia, MD office 1 day per week. U.S. Citizenship and an active Top Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance are required.

Salary: $115,199–$155,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Develop Java-based software using modern frameworks and libraries.
• Design enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Gemini into engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration testing.
• Guide agents across multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship are required.
• Five years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries with a related bachelor’s degree; alternatively, three years of relevant experience with a related master’s degree, or a high school diploma/equivalent and nine years of relevant experience.
• Strong Java development experience, including Spring or Guava.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle, Linux, and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, responsiveness, inquisitiveness, and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently and collaboratively.
• DoD 8140 / 8570 compliance certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
• Must work onsite at the Hanover customer site 1–2 days per week and at the Columbia office 1 day per week, with flexibility for schedule changes.

Nice to have

• Daily engineering use of Claude Code, Gemini, or other AI coding agents for multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience.
• Familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
• Understanding of agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
