Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, with an average of 2–3 full-time days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office or Ft. Meade onsite; U.S. citizenship required.

Salary: $115,199–$145,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into daily engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature development, codebase refactoring, and unit and integration test generation.
• Manage AI-agent context across multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers in a fast-paced small-business environment while troubleshooting issues and meeting multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, such as Spring and Guava.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
• Experience with object-oriented programming, RESTful services, enterprise APIs, microservices, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• U.S. citizenship required; a current U.S. Government security clearance is not required on day one but will be processed.
• Ability to work hybrid, attending the Columbia, MD office or Ft. Meade onsite 2–3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Current Secret or Top Secret U.S. Government clearance.
• Experience with AWS or Azure, distributed and NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Experience using Claude Code or Gemini for feature delivery, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with Big Data Platform, JCRS-D, data lakes, or data warehouses.
• DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications.
