Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, with an average of 2–3 full 8-hour days per week at the Columbia, MD office or Ft. Meade onsite. U.S. citizenship is required; a current U.S. Government security clearance is not required on day one but will be processed.

Salary: $115,199–$145,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Develop enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate Claude Code or Gemini agentic workflows into daily software engineering activities.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Guide AI agents through complex multi-repository architectures and critically audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers in a fast-paced small-business environment while troubleshooting issues, meeting deadlines, and keeping current with software development trends.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries such as Spring or Guava; a related bachelor’s degree, or 3 years of relevant experience with a related master’s degree, or a high school diploma/equivalent with 9 years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship required. A current U.S. Government security clearance is not required on day one and will be processed; candidates with a current Secret or TS clearance may also be considered.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs, developing RESTful web services, and working with microservices architecture.
• Experience with object-oriented programming paradigms, the agile software lifecycle, and Linux.
• Experience with configuration management and development tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Strong Java software development knowledge, testing skills, troubleshooting ability, responsiveness, and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment at the Columbia, MD office or Ft. Meade onsite for an average of 2–3 full days per week, with flexibility for schedule changes.
• Experience integrating advanced AI coding agents, specifically Claude Code or Google’s Antigravity/Gemini agentic workflows, into daily engineering work.
• Experience using autonomous agents for multi-file implementations, complex refactoring, and automated unit/integration testing, including context management and critical review of generated code.

Nice to have

• Current U.S. Government security clearance.
• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience.
• Experience or familiarity with Big Data Platform (BDP), JCRS-D, data lakes, or data warehouses.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and standard development tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or GitHub Enterprise.
• DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications, which may be required as directed by the customer.
