Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, with an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office; U.S. citizenship required

Salary: $111,662–$145,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Design enterprise APIs and RESTful web services using modern Java frameworks and libraries.
• Build and maintain microservices and object-oriented software solutions.
• Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Gemini for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration testing.
• Guide agents through multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers in a fast-paced small-business environment while troubleshooting issues and meeting multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• Active Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
• Experience with Java, modern Java frameworks and libraries, enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with agile software development, Linux, and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, responsiveness, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid environment at the Columbia, Maryland office 1–2 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience using Claude Code or Gemini in daily engineering workflows.
• Experience with AWS or Azure cloud technologies.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or data warehouses.
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise, or similar development tools.
