What you will do

• Optimize energy load profiles for devices including thermostats, home batteries, and EVs.
• Develop and productionize algorithms and models using machine learning and statistical techniques.
• Analyze diverse datasets such as energy consumption, user interactions, and energy markets to inform product direction.
• Take significant ownership of the algorithms team’s software architecture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design/UX, Operations, Engineering) to define and deliver impactful features.
• Design and lead implementation of projects up to a quarter long and clarify ambiguous problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a non-CS STEM field.
• 4-8+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience developing and evaluating algorithms and models in production environments.
• Proficiency in Python for algorithm-focused software development.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or Redshift.
• Experience with energy industry knowledge, building energy systems physics, or smart energy devices (thermostats, EVs, solar, batteries).
• Experience leading the design of complex, scalable software systems.
• Solid foundation in statistics, including inference, simulation, and optimization.
• Hands-on experience developing machine learning or statistical models.

Nice to have

• Scalable distributed data processing.
• Serverless and cloud-native tools (AWS Lambda, GCP Pub/Sub).
• Data pipeline development using Prefect, Airflow, or similar tools.
