What you will do

• Lead and grow a team of engineers in designing, developing, and supporting a highly-parallel, fault-tolerant database system.
• Recruit, interview, and hire new team members in a competitive talent market.
• Provide continuous mentorship, coaching, and career development for your reports.
• Lead and participate in technical, design, and product discussions.
• Translate product requirements into actionable engineering work and collaborate on planning.
• Manage resources to achieve execution goals, respond to customer feedback, and address production issues.

Requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience.
• Proven track record of successful recruiting and leading technical teams.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with query processing experience (compile/execution time) and related database technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for complex technical challenges.
• Outstanding written and oral English language skills required for documentation and presentations.

Nice to have

• Strong database fundamentals including SQL, performance optimization, and schema design.
• Background in database internals or large-scale data processing systems like Hadoop or Spark.
• Prior experience running database internal engineering teams.
• Proven experience with authoring roadmap documents, project plans, and RCAs.
• German language skills.
