TL;DR
Java/Kotlin Backend Engineer (E-health): Building scalable, event-driven backend systems for an open-source healthcare platform processing billions of data records with an accent on performance, reliability, and cloud-native infrastructure. Focus on optimizing complex data pipelines, implementing real-time analytics and matching algorithms, and designing robust systems with Kafka, GCP, Docker, and Terraform.

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid work with the option to work from home two days per week.

Salary: €65,000–€85,000 gross per year, depending on knowledge and experience.

hirify.global is a mid-sized e-health technology organisation developing an open-source platform for processing and analysing large volumes of complex data to support scientists, doctors, and researchers worldwide.

What you will do

  • Build scalable, event-driven backend systems with Java, Kotlin, and Kafka.
  • Develop and optimise services for a platform processing massive volumes of complex data.
  • Deploy and operate cloud-native systems in GCP using Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and Terraform.
  • Improve platform performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Research and implement technologies, features, and AI capabilities for the open-source platform.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and researchers on complex technical challenges.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant backend engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with Java, Kotlin, or Python.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD processes.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Amsterdam.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Experience with Kafka and Terraform.
  • Completed technical MSc or PhD.
