TL;DR

Business Development Representative (BDR) (DSM/DER): Identify and generate new business opportunities in utility services focused on Demand Side Management programs and Distributed Energy Resources with an accent on energy efficiency, load flexibility, demand response, and electrification initiatives. Focus on prospecting leads, tailoring presentations, and collaborating on customized proposals to drive revenue growth in the utility sector.

Location: Must be located in the Central or Mountain time zone. Travel required (approximately 50% of work time), 3-4 trips per quarter. Must attend 3–4 industry conferences per year and travel to utility client meetings as necessary.

Salary: $110,000-$130,000 plus commission and discretionary annual bonus

What you will do

  • Review and summarize key utility filings for DSM and DER initiatives and mandates.
  • Prospect, qualify, and generate leads through outbound calls, emails, and follow-ups to secure meetings with decision-makers.
  • Tailor presentations and participate in pre-sale meetings to understand client needs and advance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, delivery, and proposal teams to develop customized proposals.
  • Maintain CRM records, stay updated on industry trends, and contribute to marketing campaigns.
  • Attend industry events and conferences to build relationships and expand company visibility.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in utility business development, sales, or account management.
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, energy efficiency, and regulatory environments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-starter proficient with CRM software and sales tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Energy Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
