Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; hybrid

Salary: $207,000–$253,000 CAD annually; typical starting salary is $230,000 CAD for candidates fully ready for the role scope.

What you will do

• Lead planning, execution, and delivery of risk-critical engineering initiatives with high standards for quality, reliability, and safety.
• Improve engineering processes, sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design reviews for high-stakes systems.
• Shape the technical strategy for risk, fraud, and trust systems in partnership with senior leadership.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and other stakeholders to turn ambiguous risk problems into scalable engineering solutions.
• Build and develop the engineering team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience and 1–3 years of people management experience.
• Strong technical foundation and a track record of delivering high-quality products.
• Experience building and owning internal tools or platforms and transforming ambiguous problems into reliable, scalable systems.
• Clear communication, pragmatic decision-making, strong engineering judgment, and a customer-centric mindset.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and navigate tradeoffs involving scope, technical debt, timelines, customer needs, and business risk.
• Experience with Node, TypeScript, React, and AWS is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience in a high-growth B2B SaaS or fintech environment.
• Experience with React Native, Terraform, DynamoDB, RDS Postgres, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, Elasticsearch, or ECS.

Hiring process

• 30-minute video call with a Talent team member.
• 60-minute video call with Engineering Leaders, followed by a take-home case study and a 60-minute Engineering team interview.
• 45-minute in-person interview with a member of the Leadership team.
