System Administrator & Operations Engineer

Location: Mannheim, Germany; primarily office-based, typically five days a week, with flexibility to work from home and hybrid work options

What you will do

• Manage and optimize Linux servers in public cloud environments.
• Operate and improve distributed databases including ScyllaDB, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and OpenSearch.
• Monitor system and database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning measures.
• Diagnose and resolve issues across distributed databases, Linux servers, and cloud infrastructure.
• Automate cluster provisioning, database operations, and configuration management with Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide guidance on database practices, system performance, and scalable architecture.

Requirements

• Extensive experience administering Linux, particularly Ubuntu, and operating SQL/NoSQL databases in distributed environments.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and performance tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Bash.
• Understanding of replication, sharding, consistency levels, failover strategies, and capacity planning.
• Solid knowledge of networking and security, including firewalls, load balancing, TLS, and performance tuning.
• Experience with ScyllaDB, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch is highly desirable.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools.
• Experience automating database and deployment lifecycle tasks.
