Fraud Strategy Data Scientist (Fintech)

Location: Remote-first role for candidates authorized to work in the United States; San Jose, California is the listed pay location. Office spaces are available in San Jose, CA and Draper, UT, with opportunities to connect in person.

Salary: $112,700–$135,000 USD annually for the San Jose pay zone. Additional geographic zones range from $95,800–$121,500 annually.

What you will do

• Lead fraud detection, risk analysis, and loss mitigation projects across the fraud risk strategy lifecycle.
• Design, develop, maintain, and refine analytical rules, control strategies, predictive algorithms, and automated monitoring.
• Use SQL, Python, advanced analytics, and dashboards to investigate complex data and communicate actionable findings.
• Partner with product, engineering, modeling, operations, and business stakeholders to define requirements, KPIs, risk signals, and customer treatments.
• Validate and maintain new models, rules, product opportunities, and strategy changes through experimental design and pre- and post-implementation analysis.
• Apply AI by designing prompts, evaluating outputs, and integrating LLMs through APIs into notebooks and automated pipelines.

Requirements

• 3+ years of end-to-end fraud risk control strategy experience in eCommerce, online payments, or a related industry.
• Advanced experience with data science, analytics, complex SQL and Python scripting, predictive algorithms, and data interpretation.
• Experience building performance dashboards and monitoring in tools such as Tableau.
• Knowledge of financial fraud risk metrics, typologies, indicators, data enrichment, score recalibration, and control governance.
• Experience leading projects and influencing cross-functional teams across modeling, product, engineering, and operations.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Experience with onboarding fraud and abuse typologies.
