Data Scientist (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, California; hybrid office attendance required on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Salary: USD $100,000–$120,000 annually, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Build and maintain credit and fraud policy simulators to validate system behavior and improve risk decisioning.
• Develop and deploy statistical models and machine learning algorithms for credit risk, fraud detection, pricing, customer segmentation, and marketing attribution.
• Validate models and identify factors that affect their performance.
• Analyze structured and unstructured datasets using SQL, Python, and related tools.
• Research data science and fintech technologies and collaborate with risk, marketing, product, and engineering teams on data-driven strategies.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in data science or analytics, preferably in financial services.
• Strong proficiency in Python, including Pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn, and in SQL.
• Experience or strong interest in machine learning techniques such as Random Forest and Gradient Boosted Trees.
• Ability to document work and present analysis to technical and business audiences.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office on Wednesdays and Thursdays in a hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience with AI tools such as Claude.
• Experience with PySpark or similar data technologies.
• Understanding of credit scoring, portfolio risk, or customer lifetime value.
