Platform Engineer (C++)

Location: Switzerland, hybrid; 12-month contract with possible extension; 100% workload.

Hourly rate: expected rate to be provided by the candidate.

hirify.global is recruiting for a pharmaceutical-sector client developing medical instruments and software.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain a custom OS abstraction layer using modern C++ backend development.
• Design and maintain a system daemon and plugins exposing operating system capabilities through an RPC API.
• Contribute to an in-house Linux distribution used in medical devices.
• Write unit and integration tests, refactor legacy code, and manage Debian packaging and configuration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on medical instrument and software development projects.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience with modern C++ development.
• Strong software development experience in Linux environments.
• Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience with unit and integration testing, code refactoring, and Debian packaging and configuration.
• Fluent English and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
• Collaborative, proactive, analytical, self-motivated, independent, and able to learn quickly.
• Applicants must be Swiss nationals, EU/EFTA citizens, or hold a valid Swiss work permit due to Swiss work permit regulations.

Nice to have

• Virtualization or container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipelines.
• AWS or other cloud platforms and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• Embedded Linux, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, or hardware/software integration.
• German language skills.
