Hardware Technician (Data Center)

Location: Lake Forest, Illinois, with occasional travel to the Elk Grove Village co-location site. On-site Monday–Friday, 10 AM–7 PM; initial training is 1–2 weeks from 8 AM–5 PM.

Salary: $27.88–$35.37 per hour.

What you will do

• Install, rack, stack, and maintain servers, storage, and networking equipment.
• Perform cable management and structured cabling using fiber and copper, including cable testing.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues in a critical data center environment.
• Manage inventory, asset tracking, equipment documentation, and hardware shipping and receiving.
• Work across teams through a ticketing environment and travel occasionally between data center sites.

Requirements

• Experience documenting and tracking IT assets and hardware.
• At least 1 year of structured cabling experience with copper and fiber, including cable testing.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Clear communication and ability to collaborate across teams.
• Understanding of data center infrastructure, including servers, switches, firewalls, and routers.
• Comfort climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 lbs with a team lift.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
