Field Technician I (Fiber Optic Network)

Location: Onsite in El Paso, Texas; Deming, New Mexico; or Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA. 24x7 rotational on-call, standby, dispatch, call-outs, and overtime are required.

Base salary: $41,310–$54,570 in New Mexico; $45,021–$60,027 in Texas.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot network equipment, replace defective modules, isolate faults, and support network restoration during service interruptions.
• Assist with installation, changes, decommissioning, provisioning, and testing of Edge Compute, Wavelength, fiber-optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers.
• Install and test network and customer-premises equipment and deliver end-user services.
• Locate, mark, and protect underground outside-plant facilities using industry-standard tools.
• Manage tools, test sets, equipment, spares, inventory, shipping, receiving, and on-site or truck materials.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure, including HVAC, high-voltage electrical systems, AC/DC power equipment, and DC power plants.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or up to 2 years of relevant experience including at least 1 year in network monitoring, installation, maintenance, or repair.
• Entry-level technician knowledge or experience in at least one discipline: Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant.
• Knowledge of fiber-optic cable locating, rights-of-way, and as-built documentation.
• PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office; ability to quickly learn corporate databases and operational systems.
• Ability to maintain site security and cleanliness and provide accurate records, time logs, trouble tickets, inventory updates, and status reports.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work rotating 24x7 on-call, standby, dispatch, call-outs, and overtime as required.
• Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift up to 50 lb; and work in all weather conditions.
