Networking - Datacenter Operations Technician

Location: Herndon, Virginia, United States of America. The role is hybrid with an average requirement of 2 days per week in an hirify.global office; a 40-hour onsite work week is also required.

Salary: USD 31.35–72.36 per hour in Virginia.

What you will do

• Process inbound and outbound equipment shipments and maintain the NetBox lab inventory database.
• Install, configure, provision, and maintain routers, switches, servers, PDU/CDUs, console servers, and other network appliances.
• Provide end-user troubleshooting, diagnosis, resolution, and live support for Sales Engineers during customer presentations.
• Build small- to large-scale network topologies for Field Sales Teams.
• Assist with building and provisioning virtual machines in vCenter/ESXi, KVM, and Proxmox environments.

Requirements

• Experience using power tools and cage nuts, handling equipment weighing 50 lb or more, and using server lift tools.
• Knowledge and experience with server hardware installation, including 4-post rail kits and virtual consoles.
• Knowledge and experience with Ethernet cabling and industry transceiver standards, including SMF, MMF, MTP/MPO, CAT6-RJ45, 1GbE–800GbE optical standards, DAC, and AOC.
• Experience physically setting up and provisioning switches, routers, firewalls, and other network appliances.
• English proficiency and solid communication skills are required.
• A full-time 40-hour onsite work week is required.
• Occasional business travel may be requested.
• A bachelor’s degree in network communications management or equivalent is preferred; three years of field technician or datacenter technician experience is also acceptable.

Nice to have

• Administrative experience with CentOS, Red Hat, Debian, and other Linux distributions.
• Administrative experience with Windows and VMware.
• Experience with network testers such as IXIA and Spirent.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, dynamic routing protocols, SSH/SCP/SFTP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, CIFS, SMTP, SNMP, and DHCP.
