Presales Customer Engineer

Location: Hybrid, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Travel may be required up to 20–50%, including customer meetings, conferences, industry events, and in-person team collaboration.

What you will do

• Lead technical discovery and validation with Account Executives, mapping customer infrastructure across DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, network security, and Workers to hirify.global architectures.
• Define PoC and technical validation plans, success criteria, deployment strategies, presentations, architectural diagrams, and demonstrations.
• Guide technical onboarding and adoption through migration blueprints, DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, WAF tuning guidance, health monitoring, and risk reduction without executing implementation directly.
• Own technical customer relationships through onboarding, renewal, and expansion; lead technical QBRs and identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities while carrying a variable quota.
• Use AI agents, LLMs, and internal platforms to automate RFP responses, security questionnaires, sandbox provisioning, telemetry monitoring, and documentation.
• Create and deliver SOPs, architectural guidance, technical workshops, documentation, and enablement resources for customers and internal teams.

Requirements

• Experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Professional Services, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or Forward Deployed Engineering; required experience varies by leveling.
• Ability to whiteboard, design, and clearly explain complex enterprise network and security architectures.
• Excellent communication, presentation, consultative, advisory, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes for engineers and C-level executives.
• Experience in a quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environment, with understanding of SaaS metrics, business value translation, and enterprise sales cycles.
• Demonstrated depth in at least four technical areas: Internet fundamentals; Internet property security; Internet performance; AI proficiency; coding and scripting; or developer platform fluency.
• Internet fundamentals may include OSI layers 1–7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, DNS, HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
• Security expertise may include WAF, Bot Management, Firewalls, Rate Limiting, (M)TLS, Zero Trust, and SASE.
• Performance expertise may include speed, latency, caching, video streaming, HTTP/2, and TLS 1.3.
• AI proficiency may include prompt engineering, AI-assisted scripting and log analysis, LLM use, and workflow automation. Coding proficiency may include Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go, or similar languages.
• Developer platform experience may include RESTful or GraphQL APIs, SDKs, webhooks, cloud-native developer tooling, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and observability.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience creating and delivering technical enablement such as workshops, code samples, documentation, or developer onboarding.
• Experience with LLM orchestration, Retrieval-Augmented Generation architectures, and model-access controls.
• Knowledge of PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2 requirements.
• Background in hyperscalers, digital-native companies, distributed systems environments, or startups.
