Principal Software Engineer, Platform (AI)

Location: New York City, NY; hybrid schedule with 3 in-office days per week. Candidates should preferably be NYC-based or open to relocation within the United States.

Salary: $250K–$300K per year, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Own the architecture of the codebase, including module boundaries, domain abstractions, refactors, and migrations across the monorepo.
• Design monorepo packages, ownership models, build graphs, and conventions that enable coding agents to work with scoped context.
• Build shared platform services and infrastructure for data access, background jobs, environments, and observability.
• Define the agentic software development lifecycle from tickets through production, including team-wide defaults for agent-assisted work.
• Build AI-assisted code review, test generation, and CI gates while defining when human review is required.
• Deploy agents for ticket execution, flaky-test triage, dependency upgrades, large migrations, and incident-driven fixes.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including setting technical direction across multiple teams.
• Experience owning the architecture of a large, multi-team codebase and establishing module boundaries and engineering patterns.
• Experience with monorepo tooling such as Nx, Turborepo, Bazel, or similar, including organization-wide migrations.
• Strong platform and infrastructure experience across cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and production services operated through incidents.
• Ability to work across the stack as a product engineer, from data models to user interfaces.
• Current agent-first software development experience, with a large share of shipped code produced by AI coding agents.
• Specific experience evaluating coding-agent failure modes and improving codebase structure to address them.
• Knowledge of context engineering, agent instructions and skills, MCP, sandboxed execution, and coding-agent output evaluation.
• Influence through technical judgment, working code, and clear writing rather than title or mandate.
