Chief Technology Officer (AI)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; hybrid position requiring at least two days in the office each week

What you will do

• Develop and maintain an enterprise technology and AI roadmap aligned with strategic objectives; advise the Board and senior leadership on technology opportunities, fiduciary obligations, risk, compliance, and investment priorities.
• Establish responsible AI governance covering evaluation, approval, deployment, monitoring, retirement, privacy, security, data quality, explainability, bias, human oversight, and third-party risk.
• Lead infrastructure, systems administration, help desk, networks, DevOps, automated IT operations, service-level agreements, cybersecurity collaboration, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Oversee delivery and configuration of internal and customer-facing applications, claims-payment engines, pension-administration platforms, integrations, and AI-enabled solutions while maintaining 99.99% availability for mission-critical systems.
• Build enterprise data governance, business intelligence, advanced analytics, real-time dashboards, predictive analytics, self-service reporting, and approved AI tools using financial, actuarial, clinical, and operational data.
• Manage technology investments totaling hundreds of millions of dollars annually; lead vendor negotiations, ROI and total-cost-of-ownership governance, multidisciplinary teams, leadership development, and company-wide initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least 15 years of information technology experience, including at least 5 years in an executive C-suite leadership role and at least 5 years in a fiduciary or heavily regulated environment.
• Proven success with multi-year vendor implementations and migrations, strong vendor negotiation and budget-management skills, and experience leading large, multidisciplinary technology departments.
• Experience implementing ERISA, HIPAA, SOC 1/2, HITRUST, and other regulatory frameworks.
• Hands-on knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, cloud-native strategies, DevOps/CI-CD pipelines, and modern business intelligence toolchains.
• Experience implementing enterprise AI with positive ROI, including use-case prioritization, build-versus-buy decisions, integration, change management, adoption, performance monitoring, and value realization.
• Working knowledge of AI governance and risk management covering data privacy, cybersecurity, model risk, responsible use, human oversight, and third-party AI vendor controls.
• Ability to address complex cross-functional challenges affecting business continuity, compliance, and customer trust, and to make data-informed decisions on investments, risk, resources, and AI opportunities.
• Demonstrated success developing leaders and teams, building trust and accountability, navigating organizational change, and partnering with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Information Security, and business leaders.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in 401(k)/pension administration and/or health-insurance technology platforms.
• CISSP, CISM, CISA, PMP, or other industry certification.
