System Administrator (Linux)

Location: Stockport, United Kingdom; company facility / in-office. The role is based on office hours and includes out-of-hours work and an on-call roster, with willingness to travel to customer sites.

What you will do

• Design, tender, procure, install, configure, and enhance infrastructure for new and existing customer deployments.
• Provide day-to-day infrastructure support, monitor alerts, troubleshoot issues, communicate with customers, and escalate unresolved cases.
• Monitor server performance, review logs, identify trends and abnormalities, and maintain monitoring parameters as systems change.
• Maintain backups, automatic failover, vulnerability patching, and infrastructure resilience across managed customer sites and internal services.
• Work with colleagues across Dematic to resolve support issues and share technical knowledge.

Requirements

• Fluent English in spoken and written communication, with the ability to communicate directly with customers by email and telephone.
• At least 3 years of Linux experience in a Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, or DevOps Engineer role.
• Linux administration, preferably Red Hat or CentOS; Nagios; Grafana and/or Prometheus.
• Configuration automation with Ansible, Terraform, and experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker, plus SUSE Rancher.
• Virtualization technologies including Nutanix, Hyper-V, VMware, or SUSE Harvester; Veeam; and network skills covering firewalls and switches.
• Technical degree or equivalent skills demonstrated through extended experience.
• Technical problem-solving aptitude, willingness to learn and train others, team collaboration, clear communication, and a driving license.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and participate in out-of-hours work and an on-call roster.

Nice to have

• Windows Server knowledge.
• Database knowledge including MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or Oracle.
• Rapid7 IDR, MDR, IVM, AppSec, or CloudSec experience.
• SOTI MobiControl; storage administration with HPE, ExaGrid, or Synology.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and ideally an ITIL certification.
