Focus on designing fault-tolerant systems, leading incident response, encoding infrastructure workflows with AI tooling, and balancing SLOs, observability, cost, and platform growth.
Location: Hybrid, based out of the New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, or London hubs
Salary: $173K–$240K base compensation in San Francisco and New York City; $155K–$216K base compensation in other US locations, plus equity.
Company
Writer is an AI platform for enterprise marketing and revenue teams, using autonomous agents and governed enterprise knowledge to support growth workflows.
What you will do
Build and operate resilient, scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and Azure, with AWS preferred.
Work across SRE, DevOps, infrastructure, and platform initiatives including on-call posture, release pipelines, multi-region Terraform, and internal platform capabilities.
Automate operational tasks and infrastructure management with Python or Go, reducing manual on-call work and toil.
Use AI tooling such as Claude Code, Droid, Codex, and internal skills to investigate incidents, draft infrastructure changes, write runbooks, scaffold tooling, and review pull requests.
Lead incident response, post-mortems, and root-cause analyses while applying learnings to architecture and prevention.
Own reliability, performance, and efficiency end to end; define SLOs and error budgets and collaborate with product, security, and engineering peers.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or a similar role building and operating large-scale, highly available production systems at a high-growth product company.
Production experience running containerized systems, including a real production cluster, Helm, and Terraform or Pulumi on at least one major cloud; AWS is preferred.
Good proficiency in Python or Go for automation and tooling.
Daily use of AI-assisted or agentic tooling is required, including experience building or adopting AI-assisted workflows used by others and understanding where such tooling is unreliable.
Ability to identify systemic weaknesses, reason from constraints and failure modes, evaluate trade-offs in business terms, and challenge unsuitable defaults or best practices.
Experience making reversible production changes, writing rollback plans, and working with monitoring and logging stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalent.
Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, ownership, and accountability skills across product, security, platform, and engineering teams.
At least one end-to-end 0-to-1 infrastructure build with an outcome metric.
Nice to have
Software-engineering depth, including designing, building, and shipping non-trivial production services, libraries, or internal frameworks in Python, Go, or a comparable language.
Ability to read and modify the codebases supported by the infrastructure and move between infrastructure automation and feature engineering.
Culture & Benefits
Full-time employment with a hybrid work arrangement and company-wide and team off-sites.
Generous paid time off and company holidays.
Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and families, plus health savings and flexible spending accounts where eligible.
Paid parental leave for all parents, including 16 weeks, and fertility and family planning support.
Annual wellness and learning and development stipends.
Company stock options and 401(k).
