ICT Systems Engineer (Windows/VMware)

Location: Onsite in Corsham, Wiltshire, United Kingdom (SN13); occasional travel within and outside the UK may be required.

Salary: £37,500–£47,500 per year

What you will do

• Install, configure, test, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft and VMware operating systems, applications, and system management tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve helpdesk issues, including second- and some third-line technical problems.
• Maintain high levels of systems and infrastructure availability in a highly secure environment.
• Contribute to software asset management and controlled deployment of system changes.
• Produce and update technical documentation, from high-level checklists to detailed build and installation instructions.
• Attend and contribute to meetings approving changes to operational and development platforms.

Requirements

• Good knowledge and experience deploying, upgrading, and updating operating systems, applications, and infrastructure.
• Ability to resolve ICT systems issues from triaged helpdesk tickets and assist with second- and some third-line technical issues.
• Good knowledge of patch management and deployment, such as WSUS.
• Proficient knowledge of Windows virtualisation, especially VMware ESXi.
• Proficient in following ITIL standards and processes.
• Willingness to work as part of an integrated multi-technology team.
• Appreciation, acceptance, and adherence to the constraints of working on highly classified defence platforms.
• Successful applicants must obtain Developed Vetting security clearance.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Windows operating systems, including Active Directory, DFS, Internet Protocol, and software deployment through Group Policy.
• Some understanding of Unix, Linux, or Red Hat.
