Senior Engineer, High Voltage Development (Renewable Energy)

Location: Remote within the United States; role based in Arlington, Virginia, with 25% travel and field work

Salary: $113,000–$141,525 per year, plus annual bonus

What you will do

• Design and engineer collector high-voltage substations and generation tie lines from 35kV to 500kV for solar, wind, and BESS projects.
• Develop conceptual designs, preliminary permitting and estimating materials, scopes of work, and engineering documentation aligned with hirify.global and utility requirements.
• Manage consultant 30% design packages and coordinate with high-voltage engineering firms, EPCs, utilities, and interconnection providers.
• Perform technical due diligence for project pipelines and M&A portfolios, including coordination with internal departments.
• Support cost estimating, BOM reviews, substation expansions, and in-house design evaluations.
• Review EPC bid designs for interconnection, reliability, contractual, and hirify.global standards compliance, identifying technical inconsistencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field, with an emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of high-voltage design experience.
• Excellent understanding of standard project management methodologies.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions with high-voltage EPCs, power utilities, and internal collaborators.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize projects and tasks.
• Ability to bridge technical and non-technical topics in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel and perform field work 25% of the time.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Experience with ETAP or similar electrical modeling software.
• Experience with relay and SCADA controls and architecture.
• Experience with PLS-CADD.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Experience training and mentoring other engineers.
