Substation Design Engineer 3 (Electrical Engineering)

Location: Hybrid role based in Pomona, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The position includes reporting to an SCE facility for a set number of days, remote work on remaining days, and up to 10% travel throughout the SCE service territory.

What you will do

• Conduct QA reviews of electrical substation designs up to 500kV and resolve complex technical issues.
• Support engineering design standards, facility design bases, and controlled design-basis documentation.
• Coordinate engineers, designers, stakeholders, and full-time or contract employees on technical strategies, equipment, and standards.
• Perform life-cycle, engineering, risk, and related studies for utility infrastructure and high-impact projects.
• Develop risk mitigation and preventive maintenance improvements to strengthen safety, reliability, and reduce downtime.
• Support audits, inspections, regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and technical training for junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• At least five years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to work and reside in California and report to the Pomona facility under the hybrid work arrangement.
• Must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation and complete required NERC/CIP training before receiving unescorted access.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of substation engineering and design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledge of engineering guides, standards, codes, and methods for complex assignments.
