Platform Solution Architect (AWS)

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom; the role is available in 3 locations.

What you will do

• Lead multi-skilled agile teams across engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security.
• Design, automate, build, and support high-quality modern digital service platforms on public cloud.
• Work with customer architects and colleagues on technology choices, effort estimates, non-functional requirements, and delivery decisions.
• Provide technical leadership across projects, contribute to technology strategy, and support new business opportunities.
• Manage, coach, and develop senior staff while supporting performance and career development.
• Apply AI responsibly throughout delivery, coach teams in AI-augmented practices, and improve automation and outcomes while maintaining quality, governance, and risk accountability.

Requirements

• Excellent verbal and written communication, including explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Strong prioritisation and time management skills across multiple major projects.
• Proven team leadership and experience fostering a DevOps culture.
• Experience managing, coaching, and developing senior team members and the wider community.
• Personal ownership of delivering modern digital service platforms in production, prioritising non-functional concerns, making decisions in fast-moving environments, and owning outcomes.
• Significant expertise using multiple public cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure, across varied problem domains; whole-solution architecture; and modern Continuous Delivery techniques.
• Experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native tooling and approaches, business development within an account, technology delivery challenges of all sizes, and business cases for public cloud adoption.
• Successful application of AI to improve outcomes, evolve ways of working, and solve complex business or delivery challenges, including translating experimentation into sustainable improvements.
• All employees must continuously develop relevant AI knowledge and work within appropriate security, regulatory, commercial, and governance constraints.

Nice to have

• Third-level or equivalent qualification in a related discipline.
• Public cloud certification in AWS or Azure, and certification from another respected professional body such as CNCF.
• Active technology thought-sharing internally and externally.
• Automation tooling experience and proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, or Groovy.
• Experience evolving delivery approaches, operating models, or platform capabilities that improve developer experience, productivity, and delivery outcomes.
• Interest in emerging software delivery and platform engineering trends, including agentic delivery patterns.
