Associate Director/Director, FP&A (AI/Life Sciences)

Location: Hybrid, based at the San Diego headquarters, United States; exceptional candidates may be approved to work remotely.

Salary: Associate Director: $156K–$195K annually; Director: $180K–$225K annually.

What you will do

• Lead annual budgeting, quarterly reporting, near-term budgets, and long-range planning across internal pipeline assets, partnership programs, and platform initiatives.
• Partner with executives, group leaders, scientific leaders, and project leaders on budgets, tradeoffs, resource allocation, and operating assumptions.
• Manage consolidated three-statement financial models, stage-based cost models, cash runway scenarios, and multi-scenario portfolio plans.
• Prepare financial performance analyses and executive- and Board-ready materials, including program economics and partnership deal models.
• Collaborate with Accounting on month-end close and reporting and with Procurement on purchase-order approvals and expense controls.
• Lead FP&A operating timelines, improve scalable tools and processes, and mentor and guide FP&A colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
• 8+ years of professional experience in FP&A within biotech, pharma, or life sciences, and/or investment banking, consulting, or corporate development focused on healthcare or life sciences.
• Demonstrated expertise building and running complex three-statement, multi-scenario financial models.
• Several years of finance business-partner experience in an operating company, ideally biotech or life sciences, including collaboration with executives, department heads, and scientific leaders.
• Experience managing and developing finance professionals, including hiring.
• Experience leading recurring planning and reporting cycles on tight timelines in partnership with Accounting.
• Public-company experience, such as earnings preparation, SEC filing support, or investor materials, preferred.
• Experience with Adaptive Planning or a similar planning tool and NetSuite or a similar ERP preferred.

Nice to have

• MBA or CFA.
• Familiarity with drug development economics, including program-level costs, development stages, and partnership structures.
