Design Engineer (UK, AI)

Company

Writer is an AI platform for enterprise marketing and revenue teams, using autonomous agents and governed company knowledge to support go-to-market work.

What you will do

• Own, maintain, and optimize the Writer Design System for human developers and AI coding agents.
• Design and build production-quality UI components and product surfaces from concept through launch.
• Architect new primitives and extend core components while keeping Figma, documentation, skills, examples, libraries, and Storybook synchronized.
• Deliver design-led polish, micro-interactions, animation, and brand moments that improve product quality.
• Set front-end standards for accessibility, motion, consistency, and quality across the design system.
• Partner with designers, PMs, and engineering leads to improve system adoption and shape design-to-code workflows across the EPD organization.

Requirements

• 4–8+ years building production frontends with TypeScript and React, including end-to-end ownership of a system, platform, or product surface rather than only individual features.
• Strong understanding of animation principles, including easing curves, choreography, anticipation, follow-through, interruptibility, and perceived performance.
• Expert-level Figma proficiency with auto-layout, variants, variables, and Code Connect.
• Proficiency with Framer Motion, GSAP, and Lottie for web-based animation.
• Portfolio, side projects, GitHub, or production work demonstrating systems-level craft beyond feature work.
• Experience driving adoption of a design system or shared platform across an engineering organization and influencing technical or design direction beyond the immediate team.
• Experience with AI product surfaces, including tool-call UIs, streaming responses, agent state, and dynamic UI rendering.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous cross-team problems and use sound judgment about when to involve others.
• Commitment to Writer’s values: Connect, Challenge, and Own.
