Frontend Developer (Design Systems)

What you will do

• Build and maintain user-centred, high-volume frontends, design systems, and reusable component libraries with Angular, React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Collaborate with designers in Figma to create reusable components and establish frontend standards.
• Integrate frontends with APIs and .NET Core microservices.
• Audit and remediate accessibility issues against WCAG 2.2 AA and apply Service Standard and secure-by-design principles.
• Maintain Azure DevOps YAML build and test pipelines, including automated and DAST security testing.
• Support design-system adoption through documentation, guidance, code reviews, service assessments, and coaching in blended agile teams.

Requirements

• BPSS clearance or the ability to obtain it.
• Proven experience building design systems and component libraries.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, HTML, and CSS.
• Accessibility expertise, including auditing and remediation to WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Working knowledge of Figma, particularly Dev Mode.
• Experience calling APIs and working with RESTful microservices.
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, automated testing such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright, and DAST tools.
• Experience delivering services to the Service Standard in complex government environments.
• Clear communication skills, including explaining technical progress to any audience.

Nice to have

• Experience with the GOV.UK Design System or a departmental design system.
• Familiarity with legacy .NET and migration away from legacy systems.
• Experience integrating with GOV.UK One Login, Pay, or Notify.
• Familiarity with Azure serverless, infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Bicep, and observability.
