Software Engineering Manager (Agentic AI)

Location: Somerville, MA; hybrid work environment with at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year across US locations

What you will do

• Own the technical architecture and delivery of a new agent-native app-building product.
• Hire, mentor, and grow a team of 3–5 engineers operating with high autonomy and quality.
• Establish standards for testing, observability, and AI-driven development.
• Partner with Infrastructure and Engineering teams to evolve the API surface and runtime for agent capabilities without compromising the existing platform.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering Leadership, Infrastructure, QA, customers, and Customer Success on shared outcomes.
• Cultivate an AI-first development culture and improve engineering velocity and quality.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and scaling large SaaS products and complex distributed systems.
• 3+ years of people management experience leading a software development team, with hands-on technical leadership, solution architecture, and close involvement in coding.
• Experience building and scaling AI systems in production, including agent orchestration, context management, retrieval pipelines, vector stores, tool invocation, and MCPs.
• Experience designing and running evaluations for agentic systems, including defining success criteria, building task suites, and measuring reliability across multi-step tool use.
• Expertise with React, Node.js, MongoDB, and Postgres, plus experience deploying in multi-cloud and multi-tenant environments.
• Active use of AI tooling and a clear perspective on how it changes software development practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent working experience.
