Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; in-person work in the San Francisco office 5 days per week for Bay Area candidates, with remote work optional for candidates outside the Bay Area. Relocation to the Bay Area is supported.

Salary: $200K–$260K annually, plus equity, performance bonuses, and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Spend 50–60% of the time as an individual contributor, shipping code and owning the hardest technical problems.
• Lead a team of 4–6 engineers through 1:1s, feedback, performance management, and career growth.
• Own delivery for the team’s area by scoping, sequencing, and shipping customer commitments.
• Build AI agents that read, reconcile, and act on construction financial data such as invoices, change orders, pay applications, and budgets.
• Design unified data models, APIs, authentication, account-linking flows, filters, and pagination across dozens to hundreds of systems.
• Set the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, interviewing, and onboarding.

Requirements

• 4+ years as a back-end or full-stack engineer, including 1+ years managing or leading engineers.
• Strong individual contributor experience designing and building production systems, including cloud infrastructure such as AWS and distributed systems.
• Experience debugging production issues end-to-end, including database performance, memory, concurrency, and third-party API failures.
• Experience leading projects with other engineers by scoping work, dividing it across the team, and delivering it.
• Experience mentoring engineers and giving direct feedback, including difficult conversations.
• Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to founders and customers as well as engineers.
• Self-motivated, high ownership, low ego, and interested in building a world-class engineering culture on a fast-paced team.
• Bay Area candidates must be willing to work in person in San Francisco 5 days per week; candidates outside the Bay Area may work remotely.

Hiring process

• Decisions are made within 24 hours after each stage, with candidates updated shortly afterward.
