Automation Equipment Engineer (F/H/X)

Location: Courcelles, Belgium; hybrid setup with a target of 4 days per week on site. On-site presence increases during installation, commissioning, and SAT activities; travel to OEM sites is required for FAT activities.

What you will do

• Own equipment engineering for the 401 Automation and Automated Packaging programs from specifications and design reviews through FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, and handover to Operations.
• Define equipment specifications, capacities, layouts, utilities, and interfaces, and review mechanical, electrical, PLC, and HMI designs with systems specialists and OEMs.
• Coordinate conveyor interfaces, machine handshakes, control signals, fault-recovery logic, WCS connections, and integration with the existing sorter.
• Lead machinery risk reviews with EHS and coordinate FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, defect resolution, and acceptance activities.
• Prepare maintenance plans, critical spare-parts lists, operator training, handover documentation, and equipment support plans.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality and Validation, IT/JJT, eWM, Facilities, Procurement, OEMs, system integrators, and programme leadership to improve reliability and resolve recurring faults.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in automation or capital equipment engineering within packaging, material handling, distribution, or manufacturing.
• Proven experience delivering equipment from specification and design review through FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, and operational handover.
• Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including the ability to review PLC/HMI designs, machine handshakes, control signals, and fault-recovery logic.
• Practical machinery-safety knowledge covering risk assessments, guarding, interlocks, safe access, EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849, and CE marking requirements.
• Experience in a regulated, safety-critical, or quality-controlled environment, with knowledge of GxP, validation, and change-control requirements.
• Fluent English and French required.
• Ability to work on site at least 4 days per week and travel to OEM sites for FAT activities.

Nice to have

• Experience in MedTech, pharmaceutical, GMP or GxP environments.
• Experience with automated packaging, labelling, conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, AMR/AGV, or goods-to-person systems.
• Experience with Siemens or Rockwell PLC/HMI platforms, CMMS, reliability engineering, FMEA, TÜV FS, CMSE, or Lean Six Sigma.
