Site Reliability Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid work requiring 3 days per week from the San Francisco office

Salary: $144,500–$180,600 USD base salary annually

What you will do

• Build, deploy, and operate computing services and infrastructure for a satellite operations and image processing platform across customer on-premises and cloud environments.
• Architect and support reproducible, air-gapped deployments at scale, including service orchestration and documentation.
• Clarify requirements from internal users and external customers and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on software integration.
• Scale architecture while maintaining service availability, reliability, and performance.
• Investigate failure modes, resolve edge cases, write tests, and troubleshoot distributed systems.
• Participate in on-call rotations and support operational excellence.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building services that use cloud-native infrastructure and tooling.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
• Experience deploying and maintaining bare-metal and cloud Kubernetes using tools such as Talos, RKE2, Proxmox, or k3s.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kustomize, and/or similar IaC or GitOps tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD, or CircleCI.
• Experience building, releasing, and supporting highly available and consistently performant services.
• Knowledge of hardware- and network-level implications of on-premises computing and experience optimizing resources, managing clusters, and tuning platforms in constrained environments.
• Ability to observe and troubleshoot distributed systems using tools such as Alloy, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
• Advanced Python and Bash skills, strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities, and experience using Jira for task management and progress tracking.
• Access to export-controlled information must be possible without additional export licensing from the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.

Nice to have

• Experience with CUDA-based GPU programs.
• Security expertise in sensitive environments, including zero-trust architectures, Kubernetes hardening, security audits, and workloads deployed in air-gapped environments.
