Journalist Apprenticeship - Level 6 - BBC South West News - Plymouth

Location: Plymouth - Broadcasting House; applicants must live within a commutable distance of the role and have lived in the UK continuously for the last three years. Weekly virtual webinars and in-person bootcamps take place at PA Media Academy in London.

Salary: £26,000 per year. Fixed-term, full-time apprenticeship for 24 months.

What you will do

• Create trusted, high-quality news content for hirify.global audiences.
• Research, write and produce stories covering current affairs, business, sport, culture and politics.
• Develop storytelling, newsgathering and audience engagement skills through hands-on newsroom experience.
• Collaborate with experienced journalists and expert teams on stories relevant to the public.
• Study through weekly webinars and in-person bootcamps while completing the Level 6 Journalist Apprenticeship and NQJ.

Requirements

• Strong journalistic skills and a passion for storytelling.
• Active interest in sports news across multiple platforms.
• Interest in people, communities and issues shaping the world.
• Fresh, creative ideas for engaging new audiences.
• Motivation, adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated journalistic potential through experience such as a community or student newspaper, radio station, blog, vlog, podcast or social media content creation.
• Be at least 18 years old by the start of the apprenticeship in September 2027.
• Be legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire 24-month apprenticeship.
• Have achieved English GCSE Grade 4/C or above, National 5 at C, Functional Skills Level 2 or an equivalent qualification. Applicants under 19 must also meet the equivalent maths requirement; missing qualifications must be completed before the end of the apprenticeship.
• Have lived in the UK continuously for the three years before the apprenticeship begins.
• Must not be enrolled in another apprenticeship, hold an equivalent or higher qualification in the same subject, or have previously completed any NQJ elements.

Nice to have

• NCTJ Diploma, Level 5 Journalist Apprenticeship or another journalism qualification.
