Senior Web Engineer (React)

Location: Remote in Canada; the role may also be performed in-office or hybrid near an office. Candidates must be eligible to work without sponsorship. Occasional travel to the corporate headquarters in Denver or other North American offices may be required.

Compensation: CAD 120,000–150,000 per year in most Canadian locations.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for client-side web applications.
• Contribute to solutions from inception through deployment and support rapid iteration as the Joist product grows.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to define, design, and ship new features.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain clean, maintainable code.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, develop mitigation solutions, and document technical knowledge.
• Independently learn existing codebases, deliver meaningful work quickly, and potentially contribute to other platforms.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience developing frontend applications using JavaScript, ideally React.
• Strong JavaScript fundamentals, including common data structures.
• Proficiency in semantic HTML and CSS, including preprocessors such as Sass.
• Experience with component libraries or UI frameworks such as Material UI.
• Experience with unit and component testing using Jest or React Testing Library.
• Strong communication and effective collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Experience using LLM tools such as Claude or ChatGPT to assist with development work.

Nice to have

• Experience with Redux or Redux Toolkit.
• Experience with TypeScript.
• Experience with Storybook.
• Familiarity with Figma.
• Experience with Playwright for integration and end-to-end testing.
• Some backend or full-stack development experience.
