Business Intelligence Engineer (Healthcare)

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 annually in Chicago; the range may vary by location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Build and maintain BI dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics tools for cross-functional stakeholders.
• Define KPIs, reporting requirements, and success metrics with business teams.
• Develop and maintain curated data models, SQL queries, and transformation logic for analytics use cases.
• Validate data accuracy, troubleshoot reporting discrepancies, and support data quality monitoring.
• Improve metric documentation, data governance, visualization standards, and BI best practices.
• Perform ad hoc analysis, interpret operational trends, and identify opportunities to automate recurring reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in business intelligence, analytics, data analytics, or a similar role.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases and structured datasets.
• Experience building dashboards and reports with Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar BI platforms.
• Ability to translate business stakeholder requirements into reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with data modeling concepts and metric definitions.
• Strong attention to detail, commitment to data accuracy and quality, and effective communication with technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, life sciences, diagnostics, or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with dbt or similar data transformation frameworks.
• Experience with Python, R, or another scripting language for analysis or automation.
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts and modern analytics stacks.
• Exposure to operational or product analytics.
• Experience documenting KPIs, business logic, and analytics definitions for shared use.
