Senior Robotics Software Engineer (Autonomous Systems)

Location: Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA; onsite position. Up to 10% domestic, international, and underground mine travel is required.

What you will do

• Develop machine automation and autonomy software for underground machines, including perception, mapping, localization, path planning, and sensor fusion.
• Drive requirements review, estimation, architecture, design, programming, testing, release, and field support across the software lifecycle.
• Design and unit-test efficient, maintainable software and interfaces integrating custom and commercial off-the-shelf sensors.
• Review peer software and support agile development practices.
• Coach entry- to mid-level engineers in robotics software development.
• Manage Git version control and development branching policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years or Master’s degree with 6+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or autonomous systems, including perception, localization/positioning, path planning, and autonomous navigation.
• Demonstrated success designing, developing, and sustaining complex, mission-critical, high-reliability robotics software deployed in production.
• Expert-level C++ development on Linux, with the ability to architect scalable, maintainable, and high-performance software.
• Strong technical leadership experience delivering complex robotics projects from concept definition and research through implementation, validation, deployment, and field support.
• Hands-on experience with ROS2, CUDA, DDS, and distributed robotic software architectures.
• Experience integrating multiple sensing technologies, including LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMUs, and other sensors.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across software, controls, embedded systems, hardware, systems engineering, and product management teams.
• Customer focus, accountability, ownership, and consistent delivery against project commitments and deadlines.

Nice to have

• Real-time sensor fusion, machine learning, and deep learning experience.
• Unreal Engine or other simulation environment experience.
• Team leadership, mentoring, and coaching experience for complex robotics software deployment.
• MATLAB and Python development experience.
• Experience with GPUs and CPUs.
• Familiarity with safety-critical system design, industry standards, machine-control sensors, actuators, and control devices.
• Ability to deliver high-quality results while adapting to priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
