Principal Electrical Engineer (HV & EHV Power Infrastructure)

Location: Based from the London or Newport, United Kingdom, or Frankfurt, Germany office, with regular national and international travel across EMEA and approximately 20–30% travel expected.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical authority for HV and EHV electrical infrastructure across EMEA projects.
• Develop engineering standards, specifications, employer’s requirements, design guidelines, and technical requirements.
• Lead FEED and review conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for utility connections, transmission and distribution systems, substations, cable systems, protection and control, earthing, and power system studies.
• Provide technical assurance across procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, energisation, and operational handover, including FAT, SAT, and readiness reviews.
• Engage with utilities, transmission and distribution network operators, regulators, EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, and internal stakeholders on grid connections and delivery.
• Drive standardisation, lessons learned, value engineering, and evaluation of BESS, FACTS, gas-fired generation, renewable integration, microgrids, future grid technologies, digital engineering, analytics, and AI-enabled tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in HV/EHV electrical infrastructure design, delivery, asset development, or utility engineering.
• Demonstrated experience delivering utility connections, substations, and transmission infrastructure projects.
• Experience in utilities, transmission or distribution network operations, EPC contracting, OEM organisations, large power infrastructure development, or data centre development.
• Strong knowledge of HV and EHV transmission and distribution, utility connection processes, grid codes, protection and control, power system studies, network analysis, substation design, commissioning, energisation, cable systems, IEC and international standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent industry-standard power system modelling platforms.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, presentation, report-writing, stakeholder management, and multidisciplinary team management skills.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple countries and cultures, with strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, and commercial skills.
• Comfort with travelling to project sites, utility offices, contractor facilities, manufacturing locations, and customer-facing engagements.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional accreditation.
