Principal Electrical Engineer - HV & EHV Power Infrastructure

Location: Based from the London or Newport, United Kingdom, or Frankfurt, Germany offices, with regular national and international travel across EMEA; approximately 20–30% travel is expected.

What you will do

• Act as the technical subject matter expert and engineering authority for HV and EHV electrical infrastructure across EMEA projects.
• Lead FEED and review conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for utility connections, transmission and distribution systems, substations, cable systems, protection and control, earthing, and power system studies.
• Develop engineering standards, employer’s requirements, scopes of work, specifications, design guidelines, and commissioning requirements.
• Provide technical assurance across procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, energisation, and operational handover.
• Engage with utilities, transmission and distribution network operators, regulators, consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors, and internal development, construction, operations, and procurement teams.
• Drive standardisation, lessons learned, value engineering, digital engineering, power system modelling, data analytics, and evaluation of emerging energy technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in HV/EHV electrical infrastructure design, delivery, asset development, or utility engineering.
• Demonstrated experience delivering utility connections, substations, and transmission infrastructure projects.
• Experience in utilities, transmission system operators, distribution network operators, EPC contractors, OEM organisations, large power infrastructure developers, or data centre developers.
• Strong knowledge of HV and EHV transmission and distribution systems, utility connection processes, grid codes, protection and control, power system studies, network analysis, substation design, commissioning, energisation, cable systems, IEC standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent industry-standard power system modelling platforms.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, presentation, and report-writing skills, including experience managing consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to operate effectively across multiple countries and cultures, with strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, and commercial skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites, utility offices, contractor facilities, manufacturing locations, and customer-facing engagements.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation.
