Electrical Controls Engineer

Location: Newport, UK, United Kingdom; onsite facility engineering role.

What you will do

• Manage maintenance and switching of high-voltage equipment, including HV/LV switching plans that enable system maintenance without interrupting manufacturing.
• Own, operate, maintain, and commission HV/LV distribution, protection, power-factor correction, surge protection devices, BMS, and SCADA systems.
• Manage CHP maintenance and uptime, specify equipment maintenance requirements, and produce electrical and control-system specifications and commissioning plans.
• Design and commission control panels and systems; prepare energy, effluent, operational, maintenance, and performance reports.
• Train technicians and engineers, support problem solving, and contribute to management-of-change, 8D, FMEA, environmental, and energy reviews.
• Administer and update the CMMS to schedule and record maintenance activities.

Requirements

• Understanding of plant systems including VFDs, motors, boilers, chillers, HVAC, pumps, and vacuum systems.
• Ability to read, produce, and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and flow diagrams.
• Experience with pneumatic systems and strong understanding of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
• Ability to fault-find to a high level on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control systems.
• Ability to interact at all levels and present to senior management when required.
• Familiarity with air-conditioning systems, including humidity and room-pressure controls.
• Experience in facilities management or building services.
• Knowledge of current electrical regulations and their application.
• Ability to use common software packages including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

• Apprentice training or equivalent experience; a degree or similar qualification in electrical and/or controls engineering.
• Safety certification such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
• Basic understanding of air-conditioning, humidification, DI water, and pH-correction control systems.
• Interest in improving site energy and environmental performance, with understanding of energy management.
• Basic understanding of SPC and its use in monitoring and improving facilities-system control.
• Understanding of 8D and FMEA problem-investigation techniques.
• Experience with predictive maintenance techniques including vibration analysis and thermal imaging.
