Senior Energy Engineer (Energy Efficiency)

Location: Remote position based in Houston, Texas, United States, with up to 30% local and regional travel for site visits and client meetings.

Salary: $89,649–$152,404 per year for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Support engineering reviews of energy savings calculations for HVAC, building automation controls, lighting, motors, and process equipment.
• Evaluate baselines for existing buildings and new construction using established program procedures and technical guidance.
• Prepare and review measurement and verification plans and documentation for energy savings verification.
• Provide technical information to contractors and customers on energy modeling and calculation requirements, escalating non-routine questions to senior staff.
• Assess feasibility of new energy efficiency measures and emerging technologies through research, data collection, calculations, and pilot documentation.
• Conduct on-site energy assessments, analyze building performance, document findings, coordinate stakeholders, and support client-ready deliverables and implementation schedules.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Energy, Environmental, or Renewable/Sustainable Engineering; one year of related experience may substitute for one year of education.
• 5+ years of experience in energy efficiency engineering, building systems, utility programs, ESCO, facility engineering, or a related field.
• 1+ year of experience with lighting systems, motors, HVAC systems, building automation systems, or industrial processes.
• 1+ year of experience preparing or reviewing engineering calculations, technical documentation, or data analyses.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check required.
• Clear written and verbal communication, effective collaboration, analytical problem-solving, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently on routine assignments while seeking guidance for complex work.
• Ability to handle confidential information, manage multiple assignments and changing priorities, and maintain schedules and work-product quality.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Excel.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. The position is not eligible for new H-1B visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• PE, Engineer-in-Training, or Certified Energy Manager certification, or interest in pursuing a relevant credential.
• Experience with utility interval data, regression modeling, energy savings calculations, energy modeling tools, RCx, SEM, electrification, industrial assessments, or data center environments.
• Knowledge of IECC, LEED, WELL, the Texas Technical Resource Manual, deemed savings methodologies, IPMVP, ASHRAE Guideline 14, and ASHRAE 211 energy audits.
• Ability to support proposals and project development and develop recommendations within established procedures and senior technical guidance.
